In Morle village, Sindhudurg, a tense eight-hour standoff occurred between villagers and forest authorities after a lone tusker, "Omkar," killed farmer Laxman Gavas (65) on Tuesday. The elephant, separated from its herd, threw Gavas into the air and trampled him. Villagers demanded the elephant's capture before handing over the body. Compensation of ₹25 lakh will be provided to Gavas' family.
